Funding for Capital Projects​

The Winona Chamber Foundation, in partnership with the City of Winona Community Development Office, applied for and received funds from the state for capital projects. After an initial round of applications and grant money distribution, $26,800 remained so additional applications will be accepted for grants to support capital projects for economic development in downtown Winona. Businesses in the downtown area are eligible for funding for improvements to real property such as building construction, infrastructure, landscaping, design and engineering fees. 

 

Project selection will be announced early January and selected project(s) must have private financing secured by January 19, 2024.

Steps 

• First, read through the grant requirements and guidelines to see if you qualify.

• Fill out and submit the application by clicking on the button below. If you wish to fill out a paper copy instead, download it below and return to the Chamber of Commerce office if prior to noon on December 21st or to the City office (Nick Larson, 2nd floor, Community Development Dept.) by January 2, 2024. 

• Once the application period closes on January 2nd, the local review team will evaluate the proposal for eligibility, and the following criteria: 

  • Potential to increase the tax base 

  • Job creation and retention 

  • Feasibility (market demand, business plan, research) 

  • Readiness (project start date - commitment from contractors/banks)

• This criteria is in alignment with funding priorities established by the granting agency.
