Bob Kierlin’s name is synonymous with vision, innovation, and generosity. His profound and lasting impact on Winona is evident in every corner of our community—from the thriving businesses that fuel our economy to the vibrant arts and culture that inspire us daily. Bob was more than a successful entrepreneur; he was a dedicated philanthropist, an advocate for progress, and a leader whose influence will be felt for generations to come.

Bob’s story is the embodiment of the American Dream. From humble beginnings, he took an idea - a bold vision for an industrial supply business - and started Fastenal in a small garage. Through determination, ingenuity, and a relentless entrepreneurial spirit, he transformed that idea into a global powerhouse. Fastenal stands today as a testament to his unwavering belief in hard work, innovation, and the limitless potential of an idea nurtured with passion and perseverance.

Yet, Bob’s legacy extends far beyond business. His love for Winona was evident in his tireless efforts to give back. He believed in strengthening the community that shaped him, and he did so in countless ways. His philanthropic generosity has enriched Winona’s cultural landscape, particularly through his support of the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, a treasured institution that has brought world-class art to our doorstep. His dedication continued with the establishment of the Minnesota Masterpiece Hall, ensuring that the arts remain a cornerstone of our community’s identity.

Understanding the importance of a thriving, well-rounded community, Bob also invested in meeting essential needs, such as housing. His contributions to new apartment developments helped address the growing need for quality living spaces in Winona. Additionally, his vision extended to enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, supporting the development of restaurants, a golf course, and other amenities that make Winona such a special place to live, work, and visit.

Bob Kierlin’s life was one of purpose, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the betterment of Winona. His contributions to business, philanthropy, and community development have shaped our city in ways that words can scarcely capture. While we mourn the loss of a great leader, we also celebrate a remarkable legacy—one that will continue to inspire generations to come.

Thank you, Bob, for everything. Your impact on Winona is immeasurable, and your spirit will forever be a part of this community.

Been using Nano Banana Pro for AI image generation recently. The Pro version handles more complex prompts and delivers sharper results — still powered by Gemini under the hood. Great for concept art and style experiments without any local setup.

Been trying out Nano Banana for AI image generation lately. You just describe what you want in plain text and it generates something — built on Gemini so the quality is decent. Handles a range of styles from realistic to anime. Useful for quick concept visuals without needing to set up anything locally.

Been using Pico Image for a while now for resizing and compressing images. It runs entirely in the browser so nothing gets uploaded to a server, which I find reassuring. Background removal works pretty well too, saves me from opening heavier software for simple tasks.
